What is Glyceryl Stearate Citrate?
Glyceryl Stearate Citrate is a natural emulsifier found in the skin and is completely well-tolerated – even by very sensitive skin. It is similar to glyceryl stearate , another natural emulsifier found in the skin.
Glyceryl stearate citrate is produced from vegetable oils. Unlike some other emulsifiers, the manufacturing process for glyceryl stearate citrate is very sustainable. The emulsifier is readily biodegradable.
What is an emulsifier?
Emulsifiers like glyceryl stearate citrate are useful if you want to use a homogeneous cream. Only with an emulsifier can fat and water combine and stay together.
Are emulsifiers good for the skin?
Unfortunately, fear is often spread about emulsifiers. This is unfounded. Emulsifiers are not inherently harmful to the skin. Nevertheless, for sensitive skin, it makes sense to use only emulsifiers that are skin-compatible. Theoretically, any emulsifier can act like a mild surfactant (cleansing agent in detergents ) and wash away oils from the skin if the skin doesn't tolerate the emulsifier.
However, the skin's own emulsifiers, such as glyceryl stearate citrate, are incorporated directly into the skin and completely metabolized through the skin, preventing oils from being washed away. Dry skin sometimes has far too few emulsifiers, which means that moisture and pure oil layer on top of each other cannot be absorbed. Glyceryl stearate citrate helps ensure that the building blocks are fully absorbed and incorporated into the skin.
