Xeno No List

At Xeno, we understand the specific needs of sensitive skin, allergy sufferers, skin conditions like rosacea, neurodermatitis & co, or during pregnancy. We know that your skin can be easily irritated and requires special care. That's why we have dedicated ourselves to developing natural cosmetics that are both tolerable and effective. We also want to protect people, animals, and our planet.

Therefore, we deliberately avoid the following ingredients in all our products

Skin compatibility

Aggressive ingredients: We avoid irritating ingredients that can attack the skin barrier or damage the skin's microbiome.

Allergens: We avoid known allergens or allergy-triggering substances such as essential oils, so that our products are well tolerated even by sensitive skin.

Triggers: In products intended for people with skin conditions, we avoid ingredients that can exacerbate these skin conditions. What sounds like a matter of course is our "secret recipe". This means that you can even use most of our products if you have several skin conditions.

Comedogenic ingredients: We avoid ingredients that can clog pores and cause pimples.

Unresearched ingredients: We avoid exotic extracts and trendy ingredients that have not been sufficiently researched.

Sensible combination of ingredients: we pay attention to the correct skin-friendly pH value; we ensure sensible active ingredient concentrations and base this on scientific studies; we pay attention to possible interactions.

Environmental damage

Environmentally harmful ingredients: Environmental protection is important to us. That's why we avoid ingredients such as microplastics, mineral oils and triclosan, which are found in cosmetic products and can have serious consequences for the environment. Microplastic particles enter the sea and are absorbed by marine animals, contributing to ocean pollution and endangering marine life. Mineral oils, extracted from fossil fuels, not only contribute to environmental pollution but also cause significant damage during extraction, such as oil spills and habitat destruction. Triclosan, an antibacterial agent, can accumulate in the environment and affect water quality by disturbing the natural microflora. Instead, we rely on sustainable and environmentally friendly raw materials to produce our products and protect the environment.

Synthetic ingredients: We avoid the use of synthetic ingredients such as parabens, phthalates and silicones, as they can enter the environment and are difficult to break down there. These substances can contaminate water sources and affect the growth of plants and the health of animals. Our products are based on natural alternatives to protect both your skin and the environment.

Genetically modified and irradiated ingredients: Genetically modified or irradiated ingredients such as genetically modified soybean oil or irradiated preservatives have no place in our products. The use of such technologies can lead to the contamination of natural plant species and affect biodiversity. In addition, irradiated substances can release unwanted by-products during production that can be harmful to both the environment and your health. Our formulations are free of such controversial technologies and follow strict ethical standards.

Fairness

Ingredients associated with human rights violations: Ingredients such as mica, palm oil, or shea butter are sometimes produced through child labor, forced labor, and precarious working conditions. We only use such ingredients if we can rule out such working conditions through certifications or similar means.

Animal suffering

Animal-derived ingredients: We use only vegan ingredients and avoid any animal products in our formulations. If an ingredient can be obtained from both animal and plant sources, we always opt for the vegan variant. Our products are PETA certified, confirming our commitment to animal-friendly and sustainable cosmetics.

Ingredients tested on animals: We do not support animal testing and only use ingredients that are cruelty-free. Our goal is to ensure that all our products are developed without animal suffering. Therefore, we rely on alternative testing methods and select our raw materials with the utmost care to uphold ethical standards. Here, too, PETA certification underscores our commitment to cruelty-free cosmetics.

Pregnancy and breastfeeding

Ingredients unsuitable for pregnancy and breastfeeding: We deliberately omit substances that could be problematic during pregnancy or breastfeeding in order to optimally protect the health of mother and child.

Silk

e.g.: Hydrolyzed Silk

Silk is obtained by killing silkworms during production and is therefore not vegan.

Snail Slime

e.g.: Snail Secretion Filtrate

Snail mucus is not vegan and is obtained by keeping and stimulating snails, which causes great suffering to the animals. Long-term effects and comprehensive studies on possible health impacts are lacking.

Carmine (insect blood)

e.g. CI 75470 (Carmine)

Carmine is extracted from the crushed bodies of cochineal scale insects and is therefore not vegan. The extraction of the dye is ethically questionable, as it requires the killing of large numbers of insects.

Palm oil without RSPO certificate:

We only use ingredients derived from palm oil if they are certified, e.g. with the RSPO (Roundtable on Sustainable Palm Oil) seal, which guarantees sustainable cultivation. In addition to ecological problems, palm oil production often involves cases of land grabbing, forced labor and unfair working conditions on plantations in Southeast Asia.

Squalane from shark liver

We exclusively use plant-based squalane as it is sustainable, ethical, and environmentally friendly. Unlike animal-derived squalane, which is obtained from sharks, plant-based squalane protects marine ecosystems and is ideal for sensitive skin. Our products are PETA certified and have the Shark Free seal.

Mica without certification

Child labor and exploitation often occur in the mica supply chain in developing countries.
