What is Terminalia Ferdinandiana?
The Kakadu plum – also known as goat plum, Gubinge, or salt plum – is a smooth-skinned, yellowish-green fruit approximately 1.5 to 2 cm long. It originates from Australia and is one of the latest discoveries in the field of healthy aging. Its INCI name is Terminalia Ferdinandiana Fruit Extract .
It is characterized by a high content of natural ingredients such as gallic acid, ascorbic acid (vitamin C) , α-tocopherol (vitamin E) , and lutein. This combination makes it an excellent active ingredient for the care of stressed skin.
Cockatoo Plum Effect
The Kakadu plum has strong antioxidant properties and soothes the skin. The extract boasts an impressive profile of active ingredients, making it ideal for treating stressed and sensitive skin. For optimal results in your serum, the concentration of Kakadu plum should be between 1-3%.
Brightening effect
Due to the naturally occurring gallic acid and ascorbic acid, Kakadu Plum is particularly effective in lightening hyperpigmentation without irritating the skin.
Antioxidant effect
The oxygen radical absorption capacity (ORAC) of the cockatoo plum is extremely high. ORAC is a measure of how well a substance is able to neutralize harmful oxygen radicals, molecules that can damage cells. A high ORAC means that the cockatoo plum offers the skin strong protection against environmental stressors caused by such radicals.
Collagen-strengthening effect
Ascorbic acid strengthens skin collagen. A 2021 study on mice suggests that Terminalia feridiana may also contribute to maintaining collagen levels in the skin.
