What is paracress?

Paracress is a plant-based cosmetic ingredient with a relaxing effect on facial muscles. It is considered a plant-based alternative to Botox. Its INCI name is Acmella Oleracea Extract. Paracress is also known as Jambú .

Paracress effect

Paracress is a traditional remedy for reducing inflammation. It has strong antioxidant and antifungal properties. Paracress improves skin firmness and elasticity. A special feature of paracress is its relaxing effect on stressed facial muscles . Wrinkles caused by tense muscles become noticeably smoother. For this reason, it is also called "plant-based Botox." Unlike Botox, however, it does not paralyze the facial muscles but relaxes them.

Origin and chemical structure

Cultivation

Paracress next to a cosmetic jar

Acmella oleracea belongs to the daisy family and is cultivated in South America. Incidentally, Acmella oleracea has nothing to do with cress, even though the name "paracress" might suggest otherwise.

Chemical structure of paracress

Paracress (Acmella oleracea) contains the bioactive alkylamide spilanthol, which is responsible for its smoothing effects on the skin. Spilanthol belongs to the group of fat-soluble carboxylic acid amides.
