Caprylic/Capric Triglyceride , often referred to as neutral oil , is a popular ingredient in cosmetic products. They are skin-identical , meaning the oil occurs naturally in human skin. Caprylic/Capric Triglyceride: Properties and Effects

Caprylic/Capric triglycerides are an important ingredient in many skin care products and are characterized by a variety of positive properties for the skin:

  • Strengthens the skin barrier: Caprylic/capric triglycerides bind to the skin and support the skin's natural protective barrier. They form a protective film on the skin that protects it from the penetration of harmful substances and from drying out.
  • Binds moisture: Caprylic/Capric bind water in the skin and help to maintain moisture levels. This leads to supple and well-hydrated skin.
  • Absorbs easily and quickly: Caprylic/Capric Triglycerides have a light texture and are quickly absorbed into the skin without leaving a greasy or sticky feeling. This makes them pleasant to use and suitable for all skin types.
  • Enhances the effect of other active ingredients: Caprylic/capric triglycerides penetrate deep into the skin and can thus improve the absorption and effect of other active ingredients in the skin. They are therefore often used in combination with other skin care ingredients .
  • Long shelf life: Due to the short chain length and the saturated fatty acids they are made of, caprylic/capric triglycerides are less susceptible to oxidation by free radicals than other oils with longer fatty acids and double bonds. This leads to a longer shelf life for skin care products containing caprylic/capric triglycerides. The products retain their effectiveness and texture over a longer period of time and become rancid less often than other oils.

Tolerability of Caprylic/Capric Triglyceride

Caprylic/Capric Triglyceride is skin-identical. This makes Caprylic/Capric Triglyceride very well tolerated and you could even eat it. For this reason, it is also used in dietary supplements.

Compared to other typical plant oils, similar to squalane, it does not feed acne bacteria and does not clog pores (is non-comedogenic).

Is Caprylic/Capric Triglyceride Coconut Oil?

It is often mistakenly assumed that caprylic/capric triglyceride is the same as coconut oil (Cocos Nucifera Oil) . This is only partly true: caprylic/capric triglyceride is a part of coconut oil. The negative properties of coconut oil are no longer present in caprylic/capric triglyceride. On the contrary: it strengthens the skin barrier when the skin is flaky and very damaged and dry.
