What is panthenol?

Panthenol , also known as provitamin B5, is a precursor to vitamin B5 (pantothenic acid). It occurs naturally in animal and plant cells and is frequently used in skincare products.

Effects of panthenol

  • Moisturizing: Panthenol moisturizes the skin by drawing water into the outermost layer (stratum corneum). At the same time, it ensures that the stratum corneum is well-hydrated and can produce sufficient lipids. Both of these effects not only make the skin firmer and tighter, but also strengthen the skin barrier and make the skin more resistant to inflammation and stress.
  • Anti-inflammatory: Panthenol is particularly beneficial for stressed skin due to its anti-inflammatory properties. Therefore, it can also help reduce redness.
  • Wound-healing: Panthenol stimulates the growth of fibroblasts and thus promotes wound healing. Fibroblasts are cells in the skin that produce skin-firming collagen.
  • Itch-relieving: It can relieve itching and burning of the skin.
  • Reassuring: It alleviates irritation caused by skin stressors such as fragrances, drying preservatives, and also the drying effect of chemical sunscreen filters.

Who is panthenol suitable for?

Panthenol can be helpful for a variety of skin problems, as it moisturizes the skin, reduces inflammation and promotes wound healing.

Panthenol can relieve the symptoms of atopic dermatitis such as itching, redness and dryness.

Panthenol can also reduce inflammation and redness of the skin caused by rosacea , acne , sunburn , or allergies . And it can accelerate the healing of pimples.
