What is butcher's broom?

Butcher's broom extract ( Ruscus aculeatus root extract) promotes better blood circulation in the skin. It is ideal for rosacea/couperose because it reduces redness caused by poor circulation.

Butcher's broom is an evergreen shrub that is widespread in Mediterranean countries.

Effects of Butcher's Broom

Butcher's broom extract contains the saponins ruscin, ruscogenin, and neo-ruscogenin, as well as the alkaloid sparteine. Butcher's broom is a healthy alternative to vitamin K1, which has been banned in cosmetics since 2009. It has anti-inflammatory properties and stabilizes superficial blood vessels, thus reducing skin redness and swelling.

Effects of butcher's broom on rosacea/couperose

In rosacea/couperose, external stimuli such as cold, heat, spicy food or triggering skincare lead to redness.

In people without rosacea/couperose, the vascular system constricts quickly after dilating. In rosacea/couperose, when blood flow is stimulated, this cycle of dilation and constriction is disrupted. As a result, the vascular system remains dilated for longer, leading to redness caused by increased blood flow. Butcher's broom can act as a potent venous vasoconstrictor in these cases. This means that butcher's broom narrows the vascular system, thus increasing blood flow through the body's smallest network of blood vessels—the arterioles, capillaries, and venules (microcirculation)—over the long term. This reduces redness in the long run.

Effects of butcher's broom on cellulite and swollen legs

Butcher's broom also has a refreshing and calming effect and helps with heavy, swollen legs .

The ruscogenins contained in butcher's broom have a toning effect on the veins and inhibit the breakdown of enzymes involved in the breakdown of the venous support fiber elastin.

No serum or cream can simply make cellulite disappear. You can care for your legs and strengthen them with butcher's broom. Cellulite is a normal physical condition in biologically females, occurring when fat cells in the subcutaneous tissue exert pressure on the overlying connective tissue. In biologically females, these connective tissue fibers are longitudinally striated and run parallel, unlike in biologically males. In biologically males, the connective tissue fibers are transversely striated and structured like a net. When pressure pushes the fat cells in the subcutaneous tissue to the side, they can more easily pass through the longitudinally striated connective tissue. This creates visible small dimples that resemble the peel of an orange. Hence the name "orange peel" for cellulite. Such a pattern cannot develop in transversely striated connective tissue. Cellulite is therefore a gender-specific natural condition.
