We all know rice as a staple food. However, it also has many skin-care properties and is therefore also used as an ingredient in cosmetics. You can find rice in the list of ingredients under the INCI name “ Oryza Sativa ”.

Rice is a very well-tolerated, non-irritating ingredient. It has an antioxidant effect and provides moisture . Rice improves skin elasticity and smoothes the skin thanks to its highly moisturizing effect. There is strong evidence that rice also has a lightening effect for hyperpigmentation . Rice has a wide range of skin-care nutrients : potassium, magnesium, manganese, proteins, amino acids and fat building blocks such as fatty acids, fatty acid esters and phospholipids, which build the skin barrier. Rice has a high content of ceramides , a fat building block that is identical to skin. Vitamin B1 (thiamine), vitamin B2 (riboflavin), vitamin B6 (pyridoxine) and vitamin E (α-tocopherol) are also found in rice. Thanks to the vitamins, rice can ward off free radicals and oxidative stress caused by UV radiation, environmental pollution, etc. is inhibited.
