Potassium sorbate (German: Kalium Salz) is a very mild preservative for cosmetic products, particularly effective against the growth of yeasts and molds . It is not effective against bacteria. Therefore, potassium sorbate should be combined with another suitable preservative, such as pentylene glycol .
Potassium sorbate is used, for example, in baby products .
